Are you behaving like a purpose based company?
The following survey is intended to gauge whether your organization is behaving like a purpose based company. Even the best purpose based companies will answer this survey differently at various times in their history. We all go through peaks and valleys. So, think of it as a point in time assessment that will help you gauge the level of work that needs to be done to create an organization that’s capable of making a real difference in the lives of the people you serve.
Check the box if you can answer the question with a definitive YES.
If you answered “yes” to 8 or more of the questions, congratulations, you are well on your way to building an organization that’s equipped to make a difference. You have a keen sense of purpose, you’re willing to do what needs to be done to get there and you have a workforce that feels invested in the Purpose.
If you answered “yes” to 4-7 questions, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel but you’ve got some work to do. It’s time to begin identifying the primary gaps between the aspiration and the reality and chart a course for closing them.
If you answered “yes” to fewer than 3 questions, don’t despair. Every organization can have a purpose if they set their minds to it. You may in fact already have one that has not been articulated in a focused or disciplined way. In any case, you will need to spend time (1) clarifying and articulating your Purpose in a way that will guide and inform the actions of your organization; (2) identify what your organization will need to do to fulfill the promise of the Purpose; and (3) invite the employees and key stakeholders to participate in co-creating a more purpose-based organization.
